“Service Above Self”

Rotary is a service organization of business and community leaders united worldwide.  Rotarians are making a positive impact in our local and global communities.

The Rotary Club of San Jose

Benefiting the community and our world through action, integrity, service, and fellowship.

The Rotary Club of San Jose is the largest, most active and well-known service organization in the community. We are a leadership organization working together to make a difference. Our members include local business, nonprofit, professional and civic leaders. We form lasting friendships through our shared Rotary experiences including weekly meetings with interesting speakers, committee meetings and projects, social events and group service projects within our community and internationally.

Diversity & Inclusion

Having a diverse and inclusive Rotary Club means we value and welcome individuals of all ages, cultures, ethnicities, and races to our Club. We invite younger people, women, and minorities who support Rotary’s values, ideals, and mission to join our members in service to our community, and we strive to give all members equal opportunities to serve as leaders within our Club.

The Speaker for December 4: Art Bernstein

Quarters That Honor Notable Women: Change That Makes Cents

Talk Description:  Despite the introduction of digital money, physical coinage is still widely in use. Many of us, or our kids, have collected coins including “State Quarters” over the years.  Currently the U.S. Mint is issuing new quarters honoring notable American women.  This presentation will discuss who is being honored, how the designs were selected, what designs were rejected, and why George Washington is facing the other way.  All participants will receive a newly minted quarter to add to their collection and to view the coin’s design details.

Art Bernstein is an appointee of the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury serving on the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee of the U.S. Mint. As a representative of the general public, Art is actively involved in advising the Mint on the design of new coins and medals. During his professional career, Art served the County of San Mateo, the State Bar of California, as Executive Director of the law firm Hopkins & Carley, and he recently retired as Chief Operating Officer of the law firm Tucker Ellis LLP.
